SASSA Job Application Form

All applications must be submitted on the official Z83 form, which is used for all government vacancies.
 

Tips on filling in the Z83 Application Form

Please note that following when applying:

  • Your application form must state the vacancy reference number and position you are applying for.
  • Your application must be submitted via email and the subject line must also include the position name and reference number.
  • You must not leave any fields blank on the application form.
  • You must attach copy of your CV to your application (make sure it include all prior working experience, duties, employment dates, ID number, race and gender and references with full contact details).
  • You may be requested to submit copies of your qualification, certificate, ID and driver’s license etc – make sure you have these available.
  • Applicants who hold foreign qualifications must have their qualification evaluated by South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) prior to the selection process.
  • Appointments will be subjected to compulsory preemployment screening in the form of qualification, reference, ITC, criminal checks and compulsory competency assessment (where applicable).
  • Interviews may be conducted via a virtually, which will be discussed with each shortlisted applicant.

How to fill in the Z83 Application Form

It is vital that applicants complete the Z83 form correctly, to ensure their application is considered. Each position receives hundreds of applicants and if your application form is not completed correctly, it will not even be considered, so please ensure you follow these steps when filling out the Z83 form:
SECTION A

  • POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE APPLYING (AS ADVERTISED): here you must fill in the job position/ title exactly as shown on the advert – do not change or shorten it.
  • DEPARTMENT WHERE THE POSITION WAS ADVERTISED: here you must fill in the full name of the Department in which the position you are applying for is advertised (e.g. Department of Home Affairs).
  • REFERENCE NUMBER (AS STATED IN THE ADVERT): here you must fill in the reference number of the position you are applying for exactly as it is shown on the advert. If you are applying for more than 1 position, you must use a separate Z83 application form for each position.
  • IF YOU ARE OFFERED THE POSITION, WHEN CAN YOU START OR HOW MUCH NOTICE MUST YOU SERVE WITH YOUR CURRENT EMPLOYER?: here you must state the time you would like to start your new job should you be considered successful (e.g. immediately or 1 month).

SECTION B
PERSONAL INFORMATION: here you must fill in your personal information (even though it is stated on your CV).

  • Fill in your surname, followed by your first (and second/ third) name, as stated on your ID document
  • Fill in your date of birth (e.g. 01/01/1990)
  • Fill in your ID number
  • Fill in your passport number, if you are a foreigner
  • State your race (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State your gender (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State whether you have a disability (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State whether you are a South African citizen (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State your nationality if you are not a South African citizen
  • State whether you have been convicted or found guilty of a criminal offence (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State what your offence is if applicable
  • State whether you have a pending criminal case against you (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State what your pending criminal case is if applicable
  • State whether you have been dismissed for misconduct from the public service (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State why you were dismissed for misconduct from the public service if applicable
  • State whether you have a pending disciplinary case against you (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State what your pending disciplinary case is if applicable
  • State whether you have resigned from a job pending disciplinary case against you (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State what your pending disciplinary case is if applicable
  • State whether you have been discharged or retired from the public service on grounds of ill-health or a condition that you cannot be reemployed (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State whether you are conducting business with the state or are a director of a public or private company that conducts business with the state (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State what your business is with the state if applicable
  • State whether you will relinquish business interests with the state if you become employed in the public service (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State the total number of years experience you have with the private and public sector (e.g. “0” and “2 years”)
  • State whether your profession or occupation requires official registration and the particulars of registration (include the date and registration number if applicable)

Important: do NOT leave any questions blank. If a question does not apply to you, fill in the field with “N/A” which means it’s “not applicable”.
 
SECTION C
CONTACT DETAILS AND MEDIUM OF COMMUNICATIONS:

  • State your preferred language of communication (e.g. “English”).
  • Select which method you would like to be contacted on (telephone is advisable as it is fast to reach and more convenient) (mark the appropriate box with an “X”).
  • Fill in at least two phone numbers – you can fill in your own and another person who is reliable and will inform you of any communication received regarding a post.

 
SECTION D
SOUTH AFRICAN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:

  • State which languages you are able to speak, write or read (you may insert up to 5 languages in the grey horizontal boxes – start with the one you are most proficient in).
  • State your level of proficiency in each of the languages you listed above (fill in “GOOD”, “FAIR”, or “BAD”).

 
SECTION E
FORMAL QUALIFICATION (from highest to the lowest)

  • In the left column, state the name of the school or technical colleges you have attended (starting with the most recent on top).
  • In the middle column, state the name of the qualification you have obtained (e.g. “BCom Accounting Science” or “Matric NSC”) (starting with the most recent on top).
  • In the right column, state the year you obtained the qualifications (starting with the most recent on top).
  • Lastly, fill in the details of your current studies if applicable (e.g. UKZN, BEng Mechanical Engineering) (fill in “N/A” if not applicable).

 
SECTION F
WORK EXPERIENCE (Also attach a detailed CV)

  • In the left column, state your current and previous employers (starting with the most recent on top).
  • In the next column, state your current and previous positions (starting with the most recent on top).
  • In the next column, state the dates you started and ending worked in these positions (e.g. “04/2020” to “05/2021”) (starting with the most recent on top).
  • In the right column, state your reasons for leaving your current and previous positions (starting with the most recent on top).
  • State whether there is any condition preventing you from becoming re-employed in the public service if you were previously employed in the public service (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)
  • State the reason for the above if applicable (mark the appropriate box with an “X”)

 
SECTION G
REFERENCES:
Fill in the details of at least 3 contactable reference who can speak well about you based on your work experience and competence (don’t forget to ask your references permission before putting them on your form):

  • In the left column, state the name of your reference.
  • In the middle column, state the referees relationship to you (e.g. supervisor).
  • In the right column, fill in the references telephone number, where they can be reached during business hours.

 
DECLARATION

  • Lastly, you must signed and insert the date on your application form. By signing, you consent that all the information and attachments provided by you are complete and correct.
  • Insert your initials in the bottom right corner of every page.
