WHEN WILL SASSA GRANTS BE PAID IN 2026 AND 2027?

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) pays social grants on fixed dates every month.

  • SASSA payments will NOT be made on the 1st day of the month or on a Monday.
  • SASSA payments will NOT be made on a public holiday or the following day.
  • SASSA payments will NOT be made on a weekend.

HOW CAN I GET MY GRANT PAYMENT?

You can receive your grant in several ways:

  • Direct deposit to your bank account
  • Using your SASSA Gold Card at ATMs
  • Retail partners like Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave

If you want to avoid the long queues on payment dates, you should wait a few days to collect your grant money – this will save you hours of time waiting in line to receive your funds.

HOW DO I KEEP MY GRANT MONEY SAFE (PAYMENT SAFETY TIPS)

Some tips to keep yourself safe when collecting your grant:

  • Check your surroundings to ensure no one is hanging around the ATM or following you.
  • Check your bank balances regularly and report any wrong amounts/ deductions.
  • Leave the ATM immediately after completing your transaction.
  • Look out for strangers who ask you to return and finalize/ close your transaction owing to them not being able to transact (in these instances, individuals may be trying to skim your card).
  • Complete your transaction carefully, taking your time to do so.
  • Put away your card and cash as soon as you have received it and before leaving the ATM.

HOW DO I USE THE SASSA GOLD CARD?

The SASSA gold card works like any regular bank card – you are able to draw money at an ATM and use your card at a till point. Grant holders should create a PIN for their gold card, to ensure their funds cannot be withdrawn if the card is lost or stolen. The SASSA gold card is approved by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

After SASSA social grant are paid each month, they remain on your SASSA gold card until you are ready to use the funds.

SASSA PAYMENT QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

We know you may have questions about SASSA grant payments, and we want to help answer your questions. Here are some of the top queries we receive and the answers:

1. When are SASSA grant payments made each month?

SASSA payments for permanent grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, etc.) are usually made during the first week of each month, starting with Old Age, followed by Disability, then Child Support grants. SRD R370 payments are issued later in the month — typically between the 24th and 30th, depending on bank processing.

2. Why is my SRD R370 grant not paid on the same day every month?

The SRD R370 grant is processed individually and doesn’t have a fixed monthly payout date. Each application is reviewed, and if approved, a unique payment date is assigned. You can check yours using the SRD status check tool.

3. What happens if my payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday?

If your payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, the funds are usually processed on the next working day. SASSA does not process payments over weekends or on national holidays.

4. How do I know if my payment is ready?

For permanent grants, payments are made on scheduled days. For the SRD R370 grant, log in to the SASSA SRD status check tool to view your status and exact payment date.

5. What if I haven’t received my grant after the payment date?

Sometimes, bank processing delays or incorrect banking details may cause late payments. If your status says ‘Paid’ but you haven’t received the money, contact your bank or call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 11.

6. How much is the SASSA grant amount in 2026?

As of October 2025, SASSA grants are paid to the following values:

  • Old Age: R2,320 for recipients between 60 and 74 years old and R2,340 for recipients over 75 years old
  • Disability Grant & Care Dependency Grant: R2,320
  • Child Support Grant: R560 (+R280 Top-Up)
  • Foster Child Grant: R1,250
  • SRD Grant: R370
These amounts are updated by SASSA, in April and October each year.
