How much does a SASSA Grant pay?

 
A social assistance or grant is a sum of money paid by the South African government, to citizens, permanent residents and refugees residing within South Africa. The grant is paid by SASSA each month, to candidates who have applied and met all the criteria of the grant.

The South African government provides social assistance via the following grants: Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant, Care Dependency Grant, Foster Child Grant, Child Support Grant, Grant-in-aid, Grants for Older person (under 75 and above 75 years old), Disability Grant and the War Veteran’s Grant.

The value of the grant is adjusted every 6 months – here is the latest information on the SASSA Grant payment amounts:

SRD Grant (Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant)

  • The amount is R350

Old Age Grant

For people above 60 years old, but below 75 years old:

  • The amount is R2 090, from 1 October 2023 to the current date
  • Upcoming increase: the amount will increase again in April 2024
  • Previous amounts: R2 080 (from 1 April 2023), R1 990 (from 1 October 2022), R1 980 (from 1 April 2022), R1 890 (from 1 October 2021)

For people above 75 years old:

  • The amount is R2 110, from 1 October 2023 to the current date
  • Upcoming increase: the amount will increase again in April 2024
  • Previous amounts: R2 100 (from 1 April 2023), R2 010 (from 1 October 2022), R2 000 (from 1 April 2022), R1 910 (from 1 October 2021)
