SASSA SRD Grant Approved but not Paid – What to do

SRD Grant “Approved”

If you are an applicant for the SASSA SRD Grant, you will be checking your SASSA status on a daily basis to see if/ when you can expect to be paid. And what can be more frustrating than seeing your status “Approved” but not seeing a payment date?

If you have been approved for the R350 SRD grant, your status check screen should look like this:

Why is my SRD Grant “Approved” but I have not been paid?

SASSA has stated that whilst 7.5 million people have applied and been approved for payment from the Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD), many of them have not received any money. This is because SASSA performs several verification checks to ensure that applicants who apply for the SRD grant are deserving candidates.

An example of a verification check SASSA undertakes is checking the applicant’s bank account for any funds that exceed the allowed threshold.

Another way SASSA performs verification checks is by commencing a means test. A means test is a tool used to determine if the applicant is eligible for financial assistance. The means test checks if the applicant’s income exceeds the threshold, and if so, the SRD Grant application will be denied.

What can I do to make sure my SRD Grant gets paid?

If your application has been marked “Approved”, it means you will be paid but SASSA has not processed your payment yet.

Make sure you have selected your payment method – you can be paid in cash at selected retailers (Spar, Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Boxer and USave stores) or you can be paid directly into your personal bank acccount (note that you cannot use a bank account that is not in your name).

If you chose to be paid into your bank account, make sure that you have filled in your full banking details (bank account, bank holder name, branch, branch code and account number).

Applicants can change payment methods for the SRD grant.

If your payment method is correct, SASSA advises recipients not to worry, their SRD grant will be paid soon.
