SASSA Grant Age Criteria – How old must you be to apply for a SASSA grant?

 

Millions of people in South Africa rely on SASSA grants to meet their very basic needs – to purchase basic monthly goods and essentials. Before recipients can receive their grant payments, SASSA must ensure applicants meet the qualifying criteria, and age is one of the criteria.

You may be wondering how old you should be in order to apply for a SASSA grant – that depends on the type of grant you are applying for, and we will outline it for you below.

Age criteria for each type of SASSA grant:

  • SRD grant: you must be between 18 and 60 years old to apply
  • Child support grant: the child must be under 18 years old
  • Foster child grant: the child must be under 18 years old
  • Care Dependency grant: the child must be under 18 years old
  • Disability grant: you must be between 18 and 59 years old to apply
  • Older persons grant: you must be at least 60 years old to apply
  • War Veterans grant: you must be at least 60 years old to apply
  • Grant-in-Aid: you must be at least 60 years old to apply
