SASSA Grant Holders with Gold Cards expiring in March 2023 must collect their new card

Updated on 3 May 2023: SASSA announced that grant recipients with expired gold cards can continue using their cards until 31 December 2023.

On 9 March 2023, SASSA released a media statement on their Facebook page informing recipients who possess Gold Cards with an expiring date of March 2023 (03/2023), to collect their new Gold Card at their nearest Post Office.

It also encouraged Grant recipients who are using the SASSA/ Postbank Cards, also expiring in March 2023, to collect their new SASSA/ Postbank Gold Cards at their nearest Post Office from Monday 13 March 2023.

Grant recipients must be aware that only people with SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards expiring in March 2023 must collect new ones at a Post Office during this time. Those whose cards are expiring at a later stage are to wait and not make any attempts to collect new cards in March. If they do, this will lead to a surplus of people applying for new cards and result in those with expired cards not getting theirs in time.

Rest assured, if you are someone whose card expires later than March 2023, SASSA and Postbank have stated that a public announcement will be made with the relevant dates and process for you to collect your new card. You will also continue to get your social grants paid into your card as it will still remain valid.
