SASSA SRD grant status on “Pending” explained!

If you have applied for the SRD R350 grant and received a “Pending” status, you may be wondering what this means about your application process. A “Pending” application means that your application has not yet been approved. In this instance, SASSA is still in the process of scanning your details so that they can be verified. There is nothing you need to do, just be patient while SASSA conducts their checks.

What does SASSA “Pending” status mean?

Many beneficiaries may find their applications “Pending” as SASSA is trying to keep up with the influx of current applications which may cause a system delay.

Each month, SASSA receives around 14 million applications for the SRD grant. Each of these applications must be checked to ensure the applicant meets all the criteria.

When will my “Pending” status be resolved?

SASSA will check your ID number against various government databases (such as UIF, SARS, and NSFAS) to ensure that you are also not a recipient of any other grant or receiving another source of income. After this, SASSA scans your ID and phone number through a fraud risk scoring process. Should your application then become successful, you will receive your payment through the Post Office, Cash Send, or your chosen bank.

To clear any further backlogs, SASSA may require further information from its applicants to verify the information they provided when they first applied for their relevant grants.

Applicants are generally approved (or declined with a reason) within 30 days.

SASSA encourages its beneficiaries to keep an eye on their SRD grant status for any updates. Once your application undergoes the verification process, the agency will then validate your name, surname, and ID number with the Department of Home Affairs.
